Traditionally, the hobby of amateur radio has centered both around education and public service. Accordingly, it was very important for the Park Cities Amateur Radio Club to seek charitable organization status from the United States Internal Revenue Service. We are happy to report that PCARC has been tax exempt reaching back to 24 September 2020 as a charitable organization. HOWEVER, because the startup funding was provided by an individual (founder and current club President) rather than the public at large, it has initially been designated as a private foundation as opposed to a public charity. It remains the goal of the club to obtain broad public support and to thereafter apply for reclassification as a public charity. Should you be so inclined as to support PCARC, know that your gifts can be tax favorable – as explained below in the IRS’s own words.
